  28.         One or more of the partitions on the STacy hard disk need to be
  29. converted into Spectre partitions.  Just use the format command on the
  30. hard disk menu when Spectre is started.
  31.  
  32.         If the Spectre can't access the hard disk at all (ie.  not even
  33. from the startup menu) then they need to change the device/subdevice
  34. menu so that the Spectre does NOT access any of the LUN 1 drives, only
  35. LUN 0.  After they change the sub-device menu save the Spectre
  36. configuration and then reboot and try again.  There is (or at least was)
  37. a bug in the STacy hard disk, if it saw a reference to LUN 1 the drive
  38. locked up.  It wouldn't even respond to commands sent to LUN 0.

  92. Sorry, what you are asking is a little bit beyond me.  The article you
  93. mention may have been by Prof. Mateti, himself.  I have had some small
  94. success with some shell commands and aliases, and this ability has
  95. kept me happy using Gulam.

  98. but, as far as I can tell, have had a lot of failures.

  137. Send email to fdc@watsun.cc.columbia.edu.  He wrote Kermit in the first
  138. place and I believe that Columbia has some sort of port for the ST.  I
  139. have had excellent luck with the implementation of Kermit on Uniterm,
  140. but some people may prefer getting it from the horse's mouth
  141. (no offense, Frank).

  180. On the ST end, I would suggest using Uniterm, which includes Kermit, among
  181. other protocols.  I have been using it on a 1040ST connected to a VAX with
  182. VMS 5.2, and have had excellent results with both ASCII and binary files.
  183.  
  184. As for the VAX - ask your system manager; it may already be installed.  If
  185. not, there are a number of versions available; the cheapest way is probably
  186. via a DECUS tape, which is available for a nominal (for a VAX site) fee.
  187. Or he/she may be able to get it from another VAX site locally; there are no
  188. restrictions on redistribution.

  190. BTW, I haven't tried Uniterm on a 520 - can someone verify that it works
  191. with that HW setup?

  228. You admit that this is unbelievable and you don't lend any credence to
  229. the person who told you.  So why post asking for someone to confirm or
  230. deny?  Just assume that anything you don't hear from several sources is
  231. probably false, and things you *do* hear from several sources are
  232. probably false, too. Even things from Atari can be false: I said STe's
  233. might not have SIMM sockets, but that turned out not to be the case.

  235. All you do by posting this rumor is create more confusion. Some people
  236. will believe you, which means people like me have to spend time denying
  237. silly things rather than getting useful work done or disseminating
  238. useful information.

  241. to discrediting it), people will pounce on me and say, "He didn't deny
  242. it!" ... So here goes: To my knowledge, the TT will ship under the
  243. Atari name.  However, I'm not Jack Tramiel, or even Sam, and my
  244. knowledge goes only so far.
